Group of Biplanes

The flight program of the Aviatická Pouť air show is traditionally designed to take the audience on a journey through the history of aviation. This will be no different at this year’s 33rd edition of this aviation celebration, held annually in the cradle of Czech aviation. Pardubice, rightfully regarded as such, will once again host the event at its airport on the weekend of June 7–8.

„For the vast majority of visitors, biplanes are the typical representatives of historic aircraft. The two wings stacked one above the other are characteristic especially of planes from the beginning of World War I through the end of the 1930s. Honestly, I must admit that the double-wing design has charmed many a modern-day pilot as well, and such historic planes are now highly sought after and lovingly maintained by their owners,“ says Jan Rudzinskyj from the Aviatická Pouť organizing team. He continues: „That’s why we decided some time ago to include these aircraft in the program. The elegant flypasts of the historic biplane group, accompanied by the pleasant sound of their engines, have always impressed the audience and earned well-deserved ovations. That’s why we’ve included the group again in this year’s show—and as a surprise for the audience, we’ll keep the exact number of planes under wraps. The group previously consisted of five aircraft, but it’s quite possible it will expand this year,“ adds Jan Rudzinskyj with a smile.

The group will include variants of the German training aircraft Bücker Bü 131, whose prototype first flew in 1934. During World War II, these were also produced in the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia. After the war, production continued in the Aero factory in Prague, and under the designations C-4 and C-104, they became the primary training aircraft for the post-war Czechoslovak Air Force. The group will also feature larger American Boeing Stearman planes, powered by radial engines. The Stearman prototype took flight in 1936.

Aviatická Pouť offers a full-day program for the entire family. On both Saturday and Sunday, there will also be a diverse ground program featuring various exhibits and activities for both children and adults. The flight program itself will last over five hours.
